Rebecca Ridge

Hello Readers and Writers!

Today we want to introduce you to a multitalented author who writes many genres, short stories, and poetry. As an Erotic author, she believes sex is something that should be celebrated and enjoyed. With the support of her friends and family, this author manages the waves in the literary industry. Her advice for authors looking to publish romance: "...go for it. Look inside your heart and write from your own experiences".

Introducing Rebeccas Ridge!

When did you start writing as a career?

I started writing properly about two years ago. I was approaching forty and realized that it was now or never. I have always written stories and poetry since being a child. I always wanted to be a writer but thought it was just a dream. I always said... one day I will write a book, but with all things you put it off and life gets in the way. My children are older now and it’s my time.

What's your current work in progress?

My current WIP is Captivated - Book one in The Submission of Maizey Randall seriesIt is out for pre-order. The release day is the 10th of July.

You write Erotic. What lead you to that genre?

I’ve always written romance, even as a child my stories were always about love. I’m a romanticist and love everything about falling in love. As I got older I became more sexually diverse. I realized that I wanted to share my diversity with the world. There are so many avenues that people don’t even know exist. Sex is something that should be celebrated and enjoyed. I’ve had readers tell me that I have opened their minds to new things, and that is really all I want to do, to share my passion with my readers.

You also have a romance novella, "A Sprinkle of Love", in publication. Which genre do you prefer?

I love both genres, a sprinkle of love was a labor of love for me. I was going through a bad time and I needed something good and pure. I also wanted something that my children could read. I prefer to write erotic romance. I like to combine the two genres.

I like my stories to be hot but to have strong romantic connections.

How do your books rebel against the status quo in your genre?

All of my stories have deep meaningful relationships underneath the sex and smut.

I tend to go against stereotypes in my erotica. I believe all stories, even smut, need a solid storyline and characters with depth

Do you believe that erotic readers enjoy plot and character-driven stories?

I would sure like to think so. I’m sure there are readers that just want the sex, but I believe a good story needs a good plot whatever the genre.

Do you have any plans to write outside of the current genres you've explored?

I currently write for a fantasy blog called Legends of the Veil. I scribe the character Lilith- The first woman and wife of Lucifer. I also have a couple of fantasy Collaboration WIPS  with another author.

What are the challenges of writing love scenes?

For me, the biggest challenge is to not make it cringy. Finding the right language is crucial to keeping a reader in the moment. Nothing brings the reader out of the moment faster than a badly worded sex scene.

How do you beat writer's block?

I take a break. I don’t get writer's block as much. I get more of a creative burn. Especially if I have a lot of projects on the go at one time.

You also moderate two Twitter accounts that offer pictures for VSS (very short story) writing prompts. Tell us about that.

Yes, I help moderate vsspic It’s a micro-story/ flash fiction prompt which is dropped on a Saturday. It’s open to all genres and you simply write a story inspired by the picture.

I also co-run VsspicAd which is vsspic after dark. It’s the same sort of thing but the picture is a romance erotica prompt. It’s open to romance/erotica writers.

Talk to me about the path you choose in publishing.

My novel Broken I have decided to try traditional publishing so I am querying that one. It’s the first in a trilogy.

I have decided to Indi publish alongside. I would like nothing more than to get my novel picked up however, I am very aware that with hard work and dedication I can do it myself.

The online market is huge. I know a lot of very inspiring and successful Indie authors. I think with self-belief and a team of great people around you anyone can achieve anything. I am lucky I have my husband and some great friends who help me unconditionally.

Alongside that, I am signed to an erotica publisher called Berlinable. I am a resident author and write one story a month for them which are available worldwide.

What advice would you give to an author who is interested in writing romance for publication?

I would say go for it. Look inside your heart and write from your own experiences. Take your past loves and heartbreaks. Your flings and near misses. Remember it all and create magic.

Where do you see your writing career going in the future?

My goal is to write full time and not have to work alongside. I’m sure we all feel that way though. I want to have a steady readership of people who enjoy my characters. That is all any writer can hope for.

What are you reading now?

Depth By Dzintra Sullivan

What can readers expect from you in the future?

My readers can expect the hot short stories to keep on coming (no pun intended).

I have plenty of series planned for you all. Hopefully, you will love the characters as much as I do.
